The match between Persipura against Persiba at Mandala Stadium, Jayapura on February 20 in the 2014 Indonesia Super League (ISL) left a very controversial outcome. Persipura claimed 3 points with a last minute penalty by Ian Louis Kabes, securing a 1-0 win. As the match was broadcasted live, many viewers were confused and irritated by the referee’s decisions. Not only by the questionable penalty award, but also by his decision towards an unsportmanship behavior conducted by Persipura’s defender, Dominggus Fakdawer. You can see his little “action” on this video:

I believe that kind of reaction shall be punished with a sending off. Evidently, referee Ahmad Suparman has failed to give a proper punishment to that cheap shot by only showing Fakdawer a yellow card. He didn’t even consult the decision with his assistant beforehand. Good thing that also can be a good example for any other teams or players, is that Persiba players did not react harshly towards that controversial decision.
Of course, comments and opinions on social media came down rapidly regarding that incident. Most of them were targeted towards Fakdawer and Suparman. For the former’s behavior and the latter’s decision. Even Persipura officials showed their regret for their player’s reaction and deemed that Fakdawer should’ve been sent off. Persiba, on the other hand, claimed that the referee has taken away their effort to get at least a point from Jayapura. Later, they decided to delegate the matter to the Disciplinary Committee (DC) for further actions.

It has been more than a month since that incident. But still, there’s no further action nor punishment given to Fakdawer by the DC. The match against Persiba may be Persipura’s last match before the league’s one-month hiatus for national election, but that’s not a reasonable argument to let this incident goes unpunished. The league’s Referee Committee was being more proactive than the DC by laying Ahmad Suparman aside for the rest of the season and revoking his duty as ISL referee. Some even said that he has been fired, but later confirmed that Suparman is only on "administrative leave."
Before the incident, the DC was actively released decisions for violations done by individuals and organizations. Those including unsportmanship behaviors by Persipura and Mitra Kukar players for their misdemeanors on a match which involved the two teams. Clubs were also getting fined by the DC for their inability to prevent their supporters on lightening red flares in the stadium.
Strangely, a week after the incident, the DC released another decisions, but there was nothing in regards of Fakdawer’s case! The release includes administrative fine and ban for several individuals such as Ferdinand Sinaga (Persib) and Abanda Herman (Barito Putera) for their negative attitudes. Stated on the release that Sinaga abused the referee verbally in a match between Persib against Semen Padang. He got 2-match ban and Rp 25 million fine.
The league is about to restart in a couple of days. Persipura is scheduled to play in a big match against Persebaya at home on April 19. I’m quite sure the DC will have the conclusion regarding Fakdawer released before the match. But yet, I won’t be too surprised if his name is still on the player’s line-up.
But still, it’s better to be late than not coming at all, right?
